Incentive Amounts
The County of Marin is offering $250 rebates for residents who remove and recycle an uncertified wood burning appliance at an approved facility. Residents who recycle and replace an uncertified wood appliance with an EPA certified appliance can receive a $325 rebate. Residents of San Geronimo Valley can receive a $1,500 rebate for recycling and replacing an uncertified wood burning appliance with a pellet or propane appliance. Additional incentives or financing options may be available to those who qualify.    

Program Duration
The program is ongoing until funds are depleted.      

Procedure
To receive a rebate for disposing of an uncertified stove, applicants must submit a photo showing that the stove has been removed, along with a receipt from an approved recycling facility. If replacing an uncertified stove with a new device, applicants must submit an application and other required documentation to the Marin County Community Development Agency for reimbursement. Applicants are allowed to purchase a new qualifying device from any vendor, but some local vendors offer additional discounts. 

Requirements
Applicants must obtain a building permit from the County of Marin Building Division or their city of town’s building department if installing a new device. A project invoice is required, but self-installation may be permitted, per building permit regulations. The installation and use of uncertified wood stoves within Marin County is prohibited by Ordinance 3395.

Moreover, in California, there is a state-wide residential energy efficiency rebate program called Energy Upgrade California™ Home Upgrade. This program provides rebates and technical support for homeowners looking to make energy efficiency improvements to their homes including: insulation, HVAC, windows, air sealing, hot water heating, and more.
