Incentive Amounts
The South Coast Air Quality Management District offers between $100 and $1,600 vouchers for residents for replacing uncertified wood appliances with gas logs, gas or electric appliances, alcohol-fueled devices, EPA certified wood stoves, pellet stoves, or EPA qualified fireplace retrofit kits. Only residents without gas service and/or residents that use wood as a primary heat source are allowed to replace an uncertified wood appliance with a certified wood appliance. Low-income residents are eligible for the higher range of incentives.
Program Duration
The program is ongoing until funds are depleted.
Procedure
To qualify for a rebate voucher, applicants must submit an application to the District. If accepted, the district will issue a voucher (valid for four weeks) that applicants can use to discount the price of a device at a participating retailer. The retailer must submit the necessary paperwork to the District to receive reimbursement.
Requirements
Residents can replace more than one uncertified wood burning device per property, but self-installations are prohibited. New devices must be installed and old devices destroyed by a retailer or third-party contractor under the supervision of the retailer. The South Coast Air Quality Management District's Rule 445 bans the sale or installation of uncertified wood appliances.
