Wood Stove Program

Eligible fuels (exclusions apply): Wood (uncertified) -> wood (certified), pellet, gas, propane, electricity (heat pump)
Notable feature(s): Includes bounty program of $350 or $200 if state picks up stove, and $100 for barrel stove or trash burner.
Incentive Amounts
The Puget Sound Clean Air Agency offers residents $1,500 vouchers to replace an uncertified wood appliance with a pellet stove, heat pump, gas, or propane appliance. Low-income residents are eligible for a full reimbursement of the device cost (up to a specified cap) and are also eligible to replace an uncertified device with an EPA certified wood device, in addition to the options listed above. Residents who recycle an uncertified stove are eligible to receive $350 ($200 if the agency picks it up). Residents who relinquish an indoor barrel stove or trash burner can receive $100.
Program Duration
The program is ongoing until funds are depleted.
Procedure
Interested residents should visit the website and complete the online application to begin the process. Vouchers can be redeemed at participating retailers.
Requirements
Uncertified wood burning appliances that are replaced or recycled must be functional. It is illegal to purchase or operate an uncertified stove in the Tacoma-Pierce County Smoke Reduction Zone.
