Summary:
Idaho provides the best and one of the only ongoing state level incentives to replace old, non-EPA compliant stoves. The Residential Alternative Energy Tax Deduction allows 40% of stove and system purchase and installation costs to be deducted from state taxes in the first year, and 20% in each of the following three years for a maximum deduction of $5,000 per year. Depending on the region of Idaho, there are also opportunities through the Department of Environmental Quality for rebates to homeowners replacing more polluting stoves with cleaner ones. These vary from $500 to thousands of dollars, depending on the area of Idaho and the kind of stove.
