Popular Mechanics is a service magazine, first published in 1902, covering a variety of information on science, automotive, technology, home and outdoors. Popular Mechanics often covers topics relating to wood and home heating, and features the latest breakthroughs in science and technology.
The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) is a public benefit corporation established in 1975 to help New York reduce its energy consumption, promote the use of renewable energy sources, and protect the environment. NYSERDA strives to facilitate change through the widespread development and use of innovative technologies to improve the State's energy, economic, and environmental wellbeing. NYSERDA has funded biomass-fired heating research and evaluation studies and has worked with companies to manufacture cleaner, more efficient, and lower emissions wood-fired appliances with advanced technology designs in the United States.
Established in 1947 on Long Island, Upton, New York, Brookhaven is a multi-program national laboratory operated by Brookhaven Science Associates for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). Seven Nobel Prizes have been awarded for discoveries made at the Lab. Brookhaven has a staff of approximately 3,000 scientists, engineers, technicians and support staff and over 4,000 guest researchers annually.
The Washington State Department of Ecology (Ecology)'s mission is to protect, preserve and enhance Washington's environment, and to promote the wise management of our air, land and water for the benefit of current and future generations. Ecology's key focus area is protecting people and the environment from toxic threats, including promoting green chemistry in partnership with business, government and nongovernmental organizations. Ecology enforces Washington State's wood stove regulations.

Established in 1905, the Forest Service is an agency of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The Forest Service manages public lands in national forests and grasslands. Gifford Pinchot, the first Chief of the Forest Service, summed up the mission of the Forest Service- "to provide the greatest amount of good for the greatest amount of people in the long run."
THE INSTITUTE FOR A SUSTAINABLE ENVIRONMENT AT CLARKSON UNIVERSITY The Institute for a Sustainable Environment (ISE) provides support for a broad array of interdisciplinary research, educational, and outreach programs across Clarkson University related to the environment, including undergraduate and graduate degree programs in environmental science and policy and faculty research. The mission of the Clarkson Institute for a Sustainable Environment is to facilitate the development, promotion, and operation of scholarly research, education, and creative activities within the University and among its partners. ISE fosters links and collaboration among faculty, students, and external partners who participate actively in the activities required to meet its vision of excellence. ISE also has the responsibility for increasing the sustainability of the Clarkson University campus and helping to make it a living laboratory for the future of sustainable education in the 21st century.
The Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves is a public-private partnership that seeks to save lives, improve livelihoods, empower women, and combat climate change by creating a thriving global market for clean and efficient household cooking solutions. Its goal is to foster the adoption of clean cookstoves and fuels in 100 million households by 2020. The Alliance works with public, private, and non-profit partners to help overcome the market barriers that currently impede the production, deployment, and use of clean cookstoves in the developing world.
Hearth Patio and Barbecue Association (HPBA) is a trade association first established in 1980 to represent and promote the interests of the hearth products industry in North America. The association includes manufacturers, retailers, distributors, manufacturers' representatives, service and installation firms, and other companies and individuals. HPBA supports wood local and regional stove changeout programs that incentivize the replacement of old wood stoves with cleaner, EPA-certified technology to reduce the air pollution caused by wood smoke.
MHA is an association of builders, manufacturers and retailers of masonry heaters whose purpose is to promote the industry, sponsor research and development, shape regulations, standards and codes, inform and educate the public, and further the expertise and professionalism of its membership.

The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is a regulatory agency whose job is to protect the quality of Oregon's environment. DEQ's mission is to be a leader in restoring, maintaining and enhancing the quality of Oregon's air, land and water. DEQ works collaboratively with Oregonians for a healthy, sustainable environment.
The National Fireplace Institute® (NFI) is the professional certification division of the Hearth, Patio & Barbecue Education Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit educational organization for the hearth industry. NFI's objective is to increase public safety by establishing meaningful credentials for professionals involved in planning and installing residential hearth appliance and venting systems. NFI, established in 2002, certifies planners and installers in three hearth product categories based upon fuel type: NFI Gas Specialist, NFI Woodburning Specialist,NFI Pellet Specialist. The program serves to greatly advance the credibility of the hearth industry and offer an alternative for states and jurisdictions where inappropriate licensing may be considered.
The Biomass Thermal Energy Council (BTEC) is an association of biomass fuel producers, appliance manufacturers and distributors, supply chain companies and non-profit organizations that view biomass thermal energy as a renewable, responsible, clean and energy-efficient pathway to meeting America's energy needs. BTEC engages in research, education, and public advocacy for the fast growing biomass thermal energy industry.
The College of Engineering, Architecture and Computer Sciences (CEACS) is one of Howard University's 12 schools and colleges. The Pellet Fuels Institute is a non-profit association that serves the pellet industry, which is comprised of pellet mills, pellet appliance manufacturers and industry suppliers. The Institute is active in educating consumers about the convenience and practicality of using wood pellet fuel in both residential and commercial applications.
DDOT Trees is the Urban Forestry Administration which is responsible for establishing and maintaining a full population of healthy street trees within the District. The mission of the Urban Forestry Administration is to manage and increase the District's street trees to maintain healthy trees that provide: improved air quality; increased ground water retention that minimizes runoff and flooding; temperature moderation; aesthetics; and other benefits to our community
